[edit] Note on very low shares

In 2005 the Liberal Democrats received their lowest share of the vote in the United Kingdom and the Conservatives their second lowest, and both lost their deposits.

I'm not sure this specific comment is necessarily relevant - the circumstances of 2005 were extremely unusual and there is a lot of evidence from other elections that even party activists will desert their party at the ballot box when there's a strong candidacy on a local one-off issue. This isn't to say either party would have had a result to write home about last year but as presently presented it looks like the area is a total desert for either party. It probably needs more explanation, but this is an exceptionally weak seat for them - neither party has topped 10% since '87, and the Tories never made one eighth of the vote, even in the early 80s. Warofdreams talk 02:35, 26 April 2006 (UTC)
