This image is a single frame from a widely known and critically acclaimed film, a cinematic work which is highly significant in the history of cyberpunk and, arguably, in the development of science fiction cinema overall. No free or public-domain images illustrating this film have been located, and the presence of this screenshot in the cyberpunk article does not significantly impact the copyright holder's ability to profit from the original film.

Visual style is an important part of the cyberpunk genre and of cyberpunk film in particular. Blade Runner is a classic example of this genre (or sub-genre); beyond the film's historic significance, this screenshot illustrates several key motifs of cyberpunk works. It provides a view of a polluted, dystopian city; of futuristic yet Earthy technology (e.g., the flying car); and of the omnipresent surveillance and information technology, here indicated by the police car and computer monitors respectively.
