Blaze the Cat (ブレイズ ・ザ ・キャット Bureizu za Kyatto?) is a fictional character in the Sonic the Hedgehog series, created by Sonic Team and owned by Sega, who made her debut in the Nintendo DS video game, Sonic Rush. Due to conflicting information she is either from an alternate dimension or the future and the defender of the Sol Emeralds. Blaze is often referred to as a queen; however she is called a princess in Sonic Rush. She's referred to as "Queen Blaze the Cat" on the official Sega of America Sonic mini site, Sonic Central, as well as the next Sonic the Hedgehog game website. In Japanese, her title is 皇女 kōjo,[1] which translates as "imperial princess," suggesting that the references to "queen" are simply mistranslations.
In the English version of the games, Blaze is voiced by Bella Hudson. She was mistakenly credited as "Berra" Hudson as Blaze in Sonic Rush, due to translation errors.
Blaze is a lavender, female, teenage anthropomorphic cat with yellow eyes.. Her attire consists of shoes and gloves similar to those worn by Sonic, only with fuzzy lining on the cuffs (the shoes are also High-heeled aswell, although keep the same motif as Sonic's). She also wears a purple cape, lined at the neck with gold and at the bottom with red, and a pair of white pants. Long fur on the top of her head is done up in a ponytail, and a jewel-like red orb is present on her forehead.

[edit] Game Appearances
[edit] Sonic Rush
Blaze and Sonic are the only playable characters in Sonic Rush, the game in which Blaze debuted. According to the storyline of the game, Blaze was a princess from another dimension. Throughout the game, she learns the meaning of friendship from Sonic and his friends, especially Cream the Rabbit. Cream opens her up to the world and the two become close partners, similar to the friendship of Sonic and Tails.
It is through the power of friendship that she realizes the true powers of the Sol Emeralds and transforms into "Burning Blaze" as a product of the Sol Emeralds, to help Super Sonic stop Dr. Eggman and Eggman Nega from taking over the universe. After Sonic and Blaze finish their adventure, they promise to see each other again and say their goodbyes as they shake hands, being torn from each other as a result of their respective dimensions being returned to normal. Blaze, still in burning form, now understands her power and the meaning of friendship as she thinks of Sonic's words of advice.
[edit] Sonic the Hedgehog
Blaze appears in the 15th Anniversary of Sonic the Hedgehog.[2] She hails from the future along with the new character Silver the Hedgehog, where she constantly fights Iblis with him. She is not the guardian of the Sol Emeralds in this game due to the fact that they don't exist in this game though it isn't known for sure wiether she knows Sonic or not. The only thing in the game that implise that she might is in her only solo stage 'Wave Ocean'. At the very beginning of the stage she says, "The Iblis Trigger... A blue hedgehog...can it be true? I need to find Silver fast!" But she says nothing to Sonic so the thoughts on this are conflicting.
At the end of Silver's story, Blaze ends up sealing Iblis inside her soul, then warps herself to another dimension. She says, "Good luck, Silver" as her last words before fading away, destroying the Flames of Disaster in their future (it is unclear whether or not she used Chaos Control to do so). Later, Sonic and the others destroy Iblis and Mephiles as Solaris in past, present, and future, which erases the events of the game from history, and therefore its possible this event had never happened.
[edit] Sonic Rivals
Blaze appears in Sonic Rivals only as one of the game's collectible cards.
[edit] Sonic and the Secret Rings
Blaze is a playable character in the game's party mode. She's unlocked when the player collects 105 Fire Souls in the adventure mode.
[edit] Comic Appearances
Blaze first appears when she comes to Knothole seeking the "Blue One", AKA Sonic. Archie does adaptations for most major Sonic games, so she may appear in a future comic adaptation, as she was featured in Sonic the Hedgehog for the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.
[edit] Personality
Although Blaze is somewhat shy and withdrawn when meeting strangers, she doesn't let this prevent her from fulfilling her mission. Her lifestyle is similar to that of Knuckles and, like him, she is quite timid, often finding it hard to open up and talk to people. She hates having the spotlight upon herself, preferring to take a backseat. Throughout the course of Sonic Rush she develops a more friendly and gentle personality.
Blaze wears a cape because she was teased for her special fire abilities when she was a child. (This implies that her skin appears to be on fire, or that her skin is translucent showing flames underneath, or that her fire-related abilities have some other effect on her body's external surfaces.) However, she will toss off the cape in a heartbeat if she needs to use her abilities.[3]
[edit] Major interaction with other characters
Blaze is from the same time and planet as Silver the Hedgehog. As a pyrokinetic in a world of psychokinetics, Blaze was teased by others, but Silver accepted her and thus the two are best friends. Together, they battle the Iblis who has destroyed their world. Blaze refers to Silver as "naive", but before she completely seals Iblis, she tells him that she likes that about him. Strangely enough Silver doesn't mention her at all in Sonic Rivals, making it possible that they never met each other due to a time paradox, or else Silver has other reasons for not talking about her.
After Cream the Rabbit finds Blaze in Sonic Rush, she takes her to tea at her house. While she's there she meets Cream's mother, Vanilla. Blaze is shocked by how friendly Cream is. Blaze decides to go search for the Sol Emeralds, Cream offers to guide her. The two form a fast friendship as Cream helps Blaze in her search for the Emeralds. Cream is later kidnapped by Dr. Eggman and Eggman Nega, and Blaze, admitting Cream is her friend, she rescues her.
In Sonic Rush, the other characters suggest she should seek Sonic the Hedgehog's help - Blaze denies this and wonders why they are so dependent on him. However, through working with Sonic in order to save the universe from Eggman and Eggman Nega, the two become good friends, and before she goes back to her own dimension, she promises to meet him again. Similar to Sonic's transformation with the Chaos Emeralds, she has the ability to transform into Burning Blaze using the Sol Emeralds from her world.
[edit] Abilities
- Blaze can run moderately fast, but not as fast as Sonic. This has been proved in the multiplayer mode of Sonic Rush, where she is considerably slower. However her ability to jump considerably higher, therefore reaching other platforms easier, thus her main advantage over Sonic. However, attacking by spinning along the ground causes her to lose speed, unlike Sonic's classic spin attack.
- Blaze is able to control, create, and use fire, meaning she is a pyrokinetic.
- Blaze turns into a firey tornado when jumping, similar to Espio the Chameleon in Knuckles Chaotix, and doesn't keep speed or go faster.
- By using the Sol Emeralds, Blaze is able to use super transformation. It is interesting to note that Blaze is the first and (currently) only female character to have a super form, making her a popular character among female fans.
[edit] Sonic Rush
Blaze's attacks and actions featured in Sonic Rush include:
- Axel Jump: This is used as a variant to Sonic's spin jump. Blaze turns into a fire-like tornado, which she can use to jump onto enemies, or to get higher ground.
- Axel Tornado: After hitting a spring, Blaze can do a variety of tricks, with a line of fire closely following her.
- Burst Dash: The variant to Sonic's spin dash, Burst Dash allows Blaze to hover and charge up power to gain speed, then take off in a fiery tornado.
- Burst Hover: When in mid-air, Blaze is able to create fire from her heels, which she can use to hover for a short amount of time.
- Fire Boost: A variant to Sonic's super boost, Blaze can use this to attack enemies as long as her tension gauge is full, or at least close to it.
- Jump Step: After launching off a spring or a rail, Blaze can temporarily hover towards an area fairly quickly.
[edit] Sonic the Hedgehog
- Spinning Claw : Similar to Blaze's attack in Sonic Rush, Blaze pirouettes in place, sweeping away enemies with a kick from her flaming foot.
- Fire Claw: Blaze's version of Sonic's Homing Attack, in which she propels herself foward while spinning around. If performed in midair, it works identically. If performed on the ground, Blaze will make an extended leap foward while twirling around.
- Accelerator Tornado: A double jump technique in which Blaze propels herself extra-high in midair with a burst of flame.
