Blast from the Past is a 1989 (season 3) episode of the 1987 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon series. This "clip show" episode of the show was written by David Wise. It originally aired on October 13, 1989 in syndication. It is available on DVD on the box set released on August 29, 2006, which includes 11 other episodes. Also Townsend Coleman Voices for Krang in this Episode.[1]
As the Technodrome at this point at the series is located in the Earth's core, Shredder and Krang are tired of being defeated by the turtles. Shredder. takes Bebop and Rocksteady up to the Earth's surface, to the "Asian-American Cultural Center" where the burial urn of "Shibana-Sama", an ancient warrior and founder of the Foot Clan, is on display.
Meanwhile, April O'Neil is broadcasting from the same Asian-American Cultural Center. Splinter fears that Shredder will go there, and he and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles go to the Asian-American Cultural Center. Then they arrive, Shredder is there and knocks the TMNT out with a smoke bomb and opens the burial urn, releasing the spirit of Shibana-Sama. Shredder wants Shibana-Sama to teach Bebop and Rocksteady ninjutsu. Shibana-Sama replies that only the true leader of the Foot Clan can make such a request.
The TMNT tell Shibana-Sama that Spliter is the sensei, not Shredder. But Shredder has the Foot Clan scrolls and Splinter has lost his memory during the fight. Shibana-Sama warns that great harm will come to those who dare to fraudulently promote themselves. The TMNT suggest that maybe they should take Splinter back to their sewer lair and cook up an antidote to help him regain his memory. Raphael volunteers to stay behind to cover their escape, but is quickly captured. Shibana-Sama teaches Bebop and Rocksteady ninjutsu.
Back at the sewer lair, the other TMNT tell Splinter their history (by way of clips from "Turtle Tracks", "Enter the Shredder", and "Shredder & Splintered") in hopes that Splinter will get his memory back. It is only if Splinter's memory comes back that he can he prove that his is the true leader of the Foot Clan by performing the "Kur-Li", a secret ninja maneuver that only the true leader would know.
Some minutes later, Splinter regains his memory. The TMNT and Splinter go back to the Asian-American Cultural Center, and Splinter performs the "Kur-li" maneuver (which turns out to be nothing more than the Curly antics of the Three Stooges). Shredder, Bebop and Rocksteady escape. The Foot Clan scrolls are returned to Splinter and Shibana-Sama returns to the burial urn.
