[edit] History

Blart lives with his grandfather on a pig farm in total exile. He never went to school because his grandfather told the local townspeople that Blart has a contagious disease that doesn't effect relatives. This resulted in no one giving him a proper education. His only friends are his grandfather's two prized pigs, Wattle and Daub. He is thought to be the chosen, as he is thought to be teh first born child at the time of the novel in his family's generation. This is how he comes to be on the quest to defeat Zoltab.

[edit] Description

In the novel, Blarts figure is described as not being very prepossessing; His head is too big, his eyes were too small and close together and his nose looks as if it was squashed into his face. His mouth constantly hangs open, his body seemed to be too short but his legs appeared to be too long and teh clothes he wears through the entire novel are too small for him and constantly cluttered with dirt and mud. His image is insulted frequently in the novel, a notable insult being Princess Lois's remark 'Weasel-face'.

[edit] Personality

Blart is very lazy and is very stubborn when it comes to work (Unless it involves pigs). His stubbornness is a constant annoyance to the company and a serious casualty on the quest. Blart is also a coward, though, and will probably admit to anything if threatened. He would even betray his friends for his own life. He isn't very resilient and moans in desperation when times of danger or hardship arise. He also has great hunger and moans if it is not tended to.

Blarts holds a special bond with pigs, particurally his grandfather's prize pigs Wattle and Daub. When living with his grandfather, he spent most of his time with the pigs. They were his only friends and he regards them above humans. He sometimes wishes he was a pig, as seen when Capablanca threatens to turn him into one and he is excited about the idea. He seems upset when he is told that Wattle and Daub are killed. At one point in the book, he fantasizes about owning a kingdom of pigs.

[edit] Relationships

[edit] Capablanca

Blart resents ever meeting Capablanca. It is Capablanca who forces him to come on the quest. He is sour with him and constantly mocks him. He finds his pain amusing, but is still fearful of his magical powers.

[edit] Beowulf

Beowulf is another person who Blart fears. When they first meet, Beowulf threatens to kill him but puts it on hold when he learns that Blart knows no prayers, and gives him time to learn some.

[edit] Princess Lois

Blart shows some affection towards Princess Lois. He admires her negative and insulting manner, and he never insults her. Lois constantly throws insults at Blart, but this just increases his affection towards her. It is not confirmed, but they may marry in Blart II.
