Blanket party
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A blanket party is a disciplinary method or a prank that is usually implemented in a military school or sometimes in combat units.
They are generally thrown when a person in the organization is believed to be not working as hard as they can be[citation needed].
Part of the reason why it can occur is that sometimes instructors will punish an entire group for the failure of a single individual. This is part of an attempt to cause group pressure for the one person who's not performing up to snuff. Some also seem to consider it to be a whiplash effect of some modern training techniques that force drill instructors to not slap around people who are under-performing.
A blanket party can also be thrown for the stinky member of the team. During training there is frequently very little time to clean up after PT. Inevitably there is usually one guy in the group who decides that it's more important to shine boots or make their bed than to take 2 minutes to soap up. Sometimes a brush party is thrown for them instead.
How is a blanket party performed? Late in the evening a group of vigilantes gather together with their towels and some bars of soap. Some variants exist where they place the soap in a sock. The guy in the lead runs over and pins the guys mouth shut with his towel. Then the other actors will wind up the bar of soap about halfway down the towel. Then the towel is swung at the persons abdomen sort of like a flail, only without the spikes. The rationale for the area of attack is that the instructors won't see the bruises put on the person under their t-shirt.
