Transformers character

The Decepticon Anti-Aircraft Base
Blackout
Affiliation Decepticon
Sub-Group Micromaster
Function Ground Infantry
Partner Spaceshot
Alternate Modes Bomber Jet
Series Transformers: Generation 1

Blackout was one of a team of two Micromaster Combiners. They came with a tank that could transform to a base. Because Blackout and his partner Spaceshot are regularly pictured together and that they are amongst the lesser known Micromasters, the exact identity of each Transformer is regularly mistaken for the other. Blackout has never appeared in Transformers fiction.

Bio

(From Dreamwave's More Than Meets The Eye Profile Book)

Blackout is half of the command team for a Decepticon mobile anti-aircraft base. He and partner Spaceshot are a perfectly matched unit on the surface; they both talk about motivation and persistence in their plans. However, Blackout's determination only lasts to a certain point. If he feels threatened or is certain that the battle is lost, his first instinct is to flee. Somestimes only fear of Spaceshot's disappointed reaction keeps him at his post when the situation looks grim for them. Thanks to their mutual skill, that rarely has to happen.

Blackout is a rear-end Micromaster Combiner; joins with Spaceshot to form bomber. He can also connect to any other front-end Micromaster Combiner to create a new vehicle form. Commands the Decepticon anti-aircraft base, which transforms from all-terrain tank to base.

Insecurities and lack of direction can hinder Blackout's effectiveness on the battlefield.

[edit] Transformers: Armada (2002, 2003, 2004)

Transformers character
Blackout
Affiliation Mini-Con
Partner Demolishor
Alternate Modes Mobile Missile Platform
Series Transformers: Armada

Blackout is one of the earliest created Mini-Cons that was a came with a larger Transformer. He was later recolored when Demolishor received his Powerlinx upgrade. Blackout was able to attach himself to Demolishor to form the front section of the Decepticon's tank mode or he is able to sit on the seat on Demolishor's back and when attached to a special Mini-Con port on Demolishor, he can fire Demolishor's shoulder missiles. Blackout was also part of the Built to Rule toyline during 2003 as Demolishor's partner - and during 2004, he was recolored with a 'Night Attack' scheme which was not based on an existing Transformers toy. In the Japanese series, Blackout had the name Search and later Spark Search when he was recolored.

Bio

(From Dreamwave's More Than Meets The Eye Profile Book)

Aggressive and independent, Blackout doesn't care what anyone else thinks about him. He follows his own path, and he's primarily concerned with seeing some action and staying true to himself. This sprited attitude often puts him at odds with his partner, Demolishor, who reveres Megatron's commands. In fact, Blackout isn't even entirely convinced of the Decepticon cause, which infuriates those around him. Even when Megatron inflicts severe punishment on him for his insubordination, Blackout remains staunchly free thinking. Demolishor, feeling sympathy for his errant partner, spends his time trying to convince Blackout to change his way of looking at things; meanwhile, Blackout is trying to get Demolishor to do the same thing.

Blackout is physically powerful and heavily armored. In his vehicle mode, he acts as a mobile missile platform with payload varying between high explosives to chemical corrosives. Blackout also possesses an advanced sensor array that he uses for tracking and locking on to targets.

Blackout is especially unwilling to take orders that he doesn't agree with, even if they're in his own best interest.

[edit] Transformers: Energon (2004)

Ten years after the events in Armada, Demolishor retained his original form only with a new color scheme. Blackout also received a new color scheme to match Demolishor's. Blackout did not appear in the Energon TV series. Blackout did not reappear when the Armada Demolishor toy was repainted for Cybertron.

[edit] Transformers: Energon (2005)

Transformers character
Blackout (Blast Off)
Affiliation Decepticon
Sub-Group Destruction Team
Alternate Modes Helicopter
Series Transformers: Energon

Blackout was a member of the Decepticon Destruction Team who transformed into a helicopter. He was able to combine with his team to form a limb of the giant robot Bruticus Maximus. In the Energon TV show, Blackout was a non-sentient drone commanded by team leader Barricade. As with all of the Energon combiner limbs, Blackout has a twin brother on his team - Stormcloud. Their energon weapons are a cannon and a pair of guns. In the Japanese series, each member had the name of a G1 Combaticon - Blackout's name was Blast Off.

[edit] Transformers: The Movie (2007)

Early leaked scripts of the Transformers movie had a Decepticon helicopter named Vortex, after the Generation 1 Combaticon. Possibly due to Hasbro's lack of a trademark on the name Vortex, they changed the name to Blackout. Blackout was a name which was used by a Micromaster Decepticon jet in Generation 1, and used as a Decepticon helicopter in Transformers: Energon, who was in fact a homage to the Combaticons in that line.

Blackout transforms into a MH-53 Pave Low. According to the screenwriters, Blackout is the largest Decepticon, transporting the other group members and has the ability to disrupt mechanical devices via EMP.

Blackout has had various different names before being finalised - Soundwave, Vortex and Incinerator; all names have been used on a Transformers toy at some point before. Blackout is said to have a cage that holds Scorponok which is where the Soundwave connection was first made. Pictures of a possible Blackout toy recently surfaced on Aintitcoolnews.

In the film, Blackout and his partner Scorponok will attack the Succent Operations Base in Qatar. He is seen in the trailer in both vehicle and robot mode.
