Blackett Baronets

The Baronetcy of Blackett of Matfen Hall was created in 1673 for William Blackett of Newcastle and remains extant. The family seat is Matfen Hall, Matfen, Northumberland, now a hotel and country club.
The Baronetcy of Blackett of Newcastle was created in 1685 for his third son William and became extinct in 1728.
The Blackett family originated in Woodcraft and Hoppyland, Durham and became highly successful in shipping, and as lead and coal mining merchants in Newcastle on Tyne.
