Black Nikka
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Black Nikka is brand of Japanese whiskey. It is manufactured by the Nikka company, which has its headquarters in the district of Omotesando, Tokyo, Japan.
Black Nikka is a 37% alcoholic whiskey, available at corner stores throughout Japan in 180, 375, 750, 2000, and 4000ml bottles.
The drink is probably most popular in its 375ml form, which can be bought for about 299 Japanese Yen in most convenience stores. It is particularly popular in the Shibuya district of Tokyo.
Apparently there is also a "Red Nikka" in existence, which has a bit more of a kick to it than its "Black" counterpart and is harder to find in regular convenience stores.
The origins of Black Nikka's name are unknown to most people, but there is much speculation due to the seemingly racist sounding overtones of the name.[citation needed]
Nikka whisky was founded by Masataka Taketsuru, who traveled to Scotland from Japan in the 1920's in order to study whisky production.
