The series was adopted into an OAV in 1987, which was directed by Hiroyuki Kitakubo and Shirow himself. The OAV is loosely based on the manga with its plot centered around the efforts of a female journalist named Sybel to save a young girl from a malfunctioning military robot created by the girl's grandfather.
