Was he really the first one? There are some Ogham runes found in America that seem to be of Irish origin.They date back to around 600. See http://www.islandnet.com/~edonon/horse.html . -- Yes, Bjarni was the first viking to find north america, although he didnt land there, he and his crew sailed along newfoundlands coast.

I suggest remove Viking settlement, since it was only a settlement, not a wiking settlement.
