[edit] Election results
Birmingham, Yardley, historically a rare three-way marginal, was gained by the Liberal Democrat candidate John Hemming in 2005. Despite its marginal Parliamentary history, all local government seats in the constituency are now held by the Liberal Democrats.
Labour's Estelle Morris (now Baroness Morris of Yardley) had held the seat since winning it with a majority of just 162 votes in 1992 but stood down at the 2005 election. John Hemming finally won a Parliamentary seat at the sixth time of asking, having also stood in Yardley in 1992, 1997 and 2001.
