Birmingham Wire Gauge Company

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Birmingham Wire Gauge Company was the main provider of piano wire in Britain in the early to mid 1800s. Their wire, noted for its strength and resilience, was stronger than the easily available German wire gauge. The Birmingham company eventually supplied musical instrument wire to other companies across the world.

The company grew out of the city's need for piano wire from the many companies that were experiencing rapid growth like Crane & Sons.
