Birmingham City Schools

Birmingham City Schools is the public school district that serves the U.S. city of Birmingham, Alabama.

It is currently the third largest school system in Alabama behind Mobile County Public School System and Jefferson County School System. The current enrollment of the system is 30,500 students, but has been continuously suffering from a significant drop in enrollment to surrounding school districts for nearly 3 decades. There are currently 67 schools in the system, 10 high schools, 13 middle school, 34 elementary school, and 9 K-8 secondary schools.

George Washington Carver High School
Huffman High School
A. H. Parker High School (founded as Industrial High School)
Hayes High School
West End High School
Wenonah High School
Jackson-Olin High School (founded as Western Olin High School in 1952)
Woodlawn High School
Kennedy Alternative High School
Ramsay High School

Former high schools include:

Banks High School (first class graduated 1961, converted to a middle school, closed in 2007)
Ensley High School (founded 1901, joined Birmingham system in 1910, merged with Jackson Olin in 2006)
Phillips High School (founded as Birmingham High School in 1923, merged into Carver in 2001)
Thomas School, Birmingham, Alabama
Ullman High School
Jones Valley High School ( now a middle school)
