Biomechanoid

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Biomechanoid is term used to describe a fictional entity featured in many science fiction books, films, and television series, usually described as a highly advanced organism that emulates machinery in both appearance and function. This is referred to as a form of "biotechnology," or technology that uses organic components rather than mechanical ones. For this reason, a biomechanoid is distinctly different from a cyborg or an android/robot, since it is entirely organic instead of being composed of mechanical parts or a combination thereof. The term was originally coined by H. R. Giger to describe his works. Prominent examples include the the Derelict and the Xenomorph from the Alien series.
