Biological detergent

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In the UK (and in no other country?), a distinction is drawn between biological and non-biological detergents. Biological detergents contain enzymes, while non-biological ones do not. Thus biological detergents are more effective; the enzymes are especially to break down protein, starches and fat.

The selling points of non-biological detergents is that they are gentler, causing less irritation to skin ("kinder on the skin") and less damage to the fabric. Some studies refute the claim that non-biological detergents are gentler: Proctor & Gamble study.
