Talk:Binary Revolution Radio
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
[edit] Notability
Binary Revolution Radio satisfies the notability guidelines for web content (Wikipedia:Notability (web)) Specificially, it falls under section 3: The content is distributed via a medium which is both well known and independent of the creators, either through an online newspaper or magazine, an online publisher, or an online broadcaster. For example, Binary Revolution Radio is distributed a number of sources (including but not limited to the following):
- http://www.podcastdirectory.com/podcasts/293
- http://odeo.com/channel/6297/view

- http://audio.textfiles.com/shows/binrev/ (partial mirror)

Binary Revolution also plays weekly on RantRadio Talk, WickedRadio and Patriot Radio (among others, I'm sure). Again, this satisfies section 3 under Wikipedia:Notability (web).

Binary Revolution Radio has also hosted a panel at a national conference, HOPE 2006.

The individual hosts of Binary Revolution Radio are also quite notable, as are the co-hosts. You can see a partial list of notable co-hosts on the main page of this article. Also, individual hosts and co-hosts have been speakers at public events and conferences, and have published works of their own.

Binary Revolution Radio has also been promoted by other popular Internet Radio personalities, such as Paul Asadoorian of PaulDotCom Security Weekly (http://pauldotcom.com) and Defensive Intuition (http://www.defensiveintuition.com/about.html). I consider this to satisfy condition 1 for Web Content, namely, "The content itself has been the subject of multiple non-trivial published works whose source is independent of the site itself."
Binary Revolution has also been independently reviewed by Chris Brunner of chrisbrunner.com. I am aware this qualifies as a "trivial" review, however, it's one more egg in the basket.

I also want to mention section 3.2 in the self-published sources guidelines (Wikipedia:Verifiability#Self-published_sources_.28online_and_paper.29)
"Self-published material may be acceptable when produced by a well-known, professional researcher in a relevant field or a well-known professional journalist. These may be acceptable so long as their work has been previously published by reliable third-party publications."
The hosts and co-hosts of this radio show are within the scope of "professional researcher in a relevant field." StankDawg holds an Associates of Applied Science as well as a Bachelors of Science degree with a major in Computer Science. He also has 15+ years experience as a programmer and systems analyst. On top of that, he has been a guest instructor and lecturer for a number of technology conferences and private certification companies. He also has "hacker street cred." He's published articles for years in Blacklisted!411 and 2600. He has also done a number of television segments for local media. Links to all of this information are available on his wikipage [1].
I believe that StankDawg meets the requirements for a valid self-published source. I believe this personal website should be valid reference material. So I've made references to his website where appropriate.
