Billy Hoeft

William Frederick (Billy) Hoeft (born May 17, 1932 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin) is a former pitcher in Major League Baseball who played for the Detroit Tigers (1952-1959[start]), Boston Red Sox (1959[mid]), Baltimore Orioles (1959[end]-1962). San Francisco Giants (1963, 1966[end]), Milwaukee Braves (1964), and Chicago Cubs (1965-1966[start]). He batted and threw left handed.

In a 15-season career, Hoeft posted a 97-101 record with a 3.94 ERA and 33 saves in 505 games pitched (200 as a starter.
On September 7, 1953, Hoeft struck out three batters on nine pitches in the seventh inning of a 6-2 win over the Chicago White Sox. Hoeft became the fourth American League pitcher and the ninth pitcher in Major League history to accomplish the nine-strike/three-strikeout half-inning.
