Billy Bates (baseball player)

William Derrick Bates (born December 7, 1963, in Houston, Texas) was a Major League Baseball second baseman. He is an alumnus of the University of Texas at Austin.

Drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 4th round of the 1985 MLB amateur draft, Bates would make his Major League Baseball debut with the Milwaukee Brewers on August 17, 1989, and appear in his final game on October 2, 1990.

Bates was a member of the Cincinnati Reds team that defeated the Oakland Athletics in the 1990 World Series.
