[edit] Coaching career

Stewart is the only rookie head coach in National Hockey League history to lead a team with a losing record to a Stanley Cup victory. In 1937-38 his Chicago Black Hawks faced the Toronto Maple Leafs in the Stanley Cup Final. The Leafs finished 1st in the 4 team Canadian Division that season while Stewart's Hawks finished only 2 points out of last place in the 4 team American Division. Ironically Stewart would be replaced the following season by Paul Thompson who led the Hawks in scoring in 1937-38.
