Bill Plaschke

William "Bill" P. Plaschke (born September 6, 1958 in Louisville, Kentucky) is an American journalist who has written for the Los Angeles Times since 1987. In 1980, he received a bachelor's degree in mass communications from Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville in Edwardsville, Illinois. Currently, Plaschke is one of the panelists on the sports-themed show Around the Horn on ESPN. He is a member of the Baseball Writers Association of America and the Professional Football Writers Association.

In his career as a sportswriter, Plaschke has been named National Sports Columnist of the Year by the Associated Press and has only been nominated for a Pulitzer Prize. Plaschke is known for his heartwarming portraits of sports figures. He is also known for his fervent crusade against sabermetrics, having criticized former Dodgers GM Paul DePodesta in particular. Sometimes, however, his columns are very controversial, especially his columns in the 2006 Torino Olympics.
