Bill Hutchison

Bill Hutchison (April 28, 1923–June 18, 1982) was a Australian rules footballer.

He played in the VFL from 1942-1957 with the Essendon Football Club, playing 290 games and kicking 496 goals. Considered one of the finest rovers ever to play the game, he was a vital part of the Bombers' premiership sides in 1942, 1946, 1949 and 1950.

He won the Brownlow Medal in 1952, tying with Roy Wright, and again in 1953. Over his career Hutchison polled a total of 172 Brownlow votes, the highest total of any player at the time of his retirement from VFL football in 1957. As well as his two Brownlow medal wins he also finished 3rd in 1948, 6th in 1950, 3rd in 1951 and 2nd in 1955.

He also captained the side from 1951-1957. He was named in the All-Australian team in 1953.

Hutchison won 7 club best and fairest titles (1946, 1948, 1950, 1952, 1953, 1955, 1956), equally the club record with Dick Reynolds. He was named in Essendon's team of the century and as the fourth best player for the club ever during the Champion of Essendon function in 2002.

Hutchison was inducted into the Australian Football Hall of Fame with Legend status.
