[edit] Background

Bill Erikson is one of the few Jericho law enforcement officials left after escaped prisoners kill the other deputies, including the Sheriff, in the pilot episode. With his partner Jimmy Taylor, he helps enforce the law in Jericho. In "Fallout", Bill and Jimmy were stuffed in the trunk of their Ford Crown Victoria police car wile two escaped prisoners posed as them to escape prison. In the fourth episode, Bill pointed out to Mayor Green that if their town were to be attacked, he and Jimmy would be its only line of defense. In the seventh episode, Jonah Prowse threatened Bill with a shotgun, took his keys, freed Mitchell Cafferty, and locked Bill in the jail.

[edit] Stanley Richmond

In the six episode, When Stanley Richmond was accused of stealing pesticides from Gracie Leighs's store, he searched the Richmond Farm, when Stanley starts to protest the search Bill says to Stanley, "I'm just doing my job.", Knowing Stanley was not enough to dissuade him.

In "Vox Populi", When it seemed Bill was on Gray Anderson's side toward the election, Jimmy says, "Your not voting for Gray Anderson, are you?" Bill tells Jimmy, "I'm not gonna answer that, this is still America." meaning he didn't want Jimmy to know whether he was voting for Gray Anderson or Johnston Green. To that statement about "this is still America" Jimmy responded, "Just barely". At toward the end of the episode, Bill swore Gray Anderson into office as the new mayor.

Shortly after, when Jonah Prowse was captured for the murder of Gracie Leigh, and a guilty verdict from a tribunal convened by Gray Anderson, Bill refused to execute him. Though he supported Gray's decision initially, he refused to follow through under questionable circumstances.
