Bill Dooley

Bill Dooley (born 1934 in Mobile, Alabama) was a head football coach, most notably of the University of North Carolina Tar Heels from 1967 to 1977. He won three Atlantic Coast Conference titles, all at North Carolina, and coached his teams to nine bowl games total. He is tied for second in most total wins at North Carolina and first in most seasons at the school. He also achieved the school's first 11-1 season in 1972, which has only been accomplished twice at the school since. After his tenure at UNC, Dooley served as the head coach at Virginia Tech, where he is currently second in both total wins and winning percentage.

Finally, he served as the head coach at Wake Forest University where, as of November 2006, he is third in the school's history for all-time wins and tied for third in longest tenure.

Bill Dooley was born in 1934, in Mobile, Alabama. In that city, he attended the McGill Institute, administered by the Brothers of the Sacred Heart. He attended Mississippi State University and graduated from there in 1956. His brother is former University of Georgia head football coach Vince Dooley.
