Bilk (beverage)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Bilk is an alcoholic beverage produced in Abashiri brewery in Hokkaido, Japan. It consists of beer and milk, hence the name. It is produced through adding beer yeast and hops into a milk and keeping the mix in a temperature lower than the milk boiling point. It looks like a beer, has a fruity taste, and is sold in 330 ml bottles. It was developed in response to declining milk consumption resulting in a milk surplus.

The beverage went on sale at the Nakahara liquor shop on February 1, 2007 for 380 yen per bottle, and is now available at 6 shops in the region. [1]
