[edit] Best-known U.S. manufacturer
Checking a recent thread in the Folding Bicycles section of www.bikeforums.net, in which people are asked to say what kind of bike they have, I get the following count. (I'm excluding historic restorations). Of the brands mentioned, Bike Friday and Montague are the only ones made in the U.S.
Bianchi: |
Bike Friday: ||||| ||||| |
Birdy: ||||
Breezer: |
Bridgestone: ||
Brompton: ||||
Burnada: |
Dahon: ||||| ||||| ||||| ||||
Giant: ||
Handybike: |
Montague: |
Raleigh: ||||| ||||| | (Not currently made)
Ritchey: |
Strida: ||
ThorUSA: |
This count wasn't very easy to do, because people often mention only the specific model name rather than the entire line--e.g. "Twenty" for Raleigh Twenty, "NWT" for Bike Friday New World Tourist, etc. When someone said they owned several bikes, I counted them all, i.e. I counted bikes, not owners. I didn't bother to list historical bikes that people are restoring, and I _tried_ to avoid counting messages that were referring to other messages. Dpbsmith (talk) 17:33, 3 September 2005 (UTC)
