Bigger Than Cheeses is a webcomic by Australian Desmond Seah. It launched on March 15, 2001, and currently updates on a once-a-week schedule. The strip, according to Desmond Seah himself, was originally intended as a joke amongst friends using MS Paint and making rough, five-minute sketches that never really were meant to be artistic. The art has evolved greatly over the years and is now drawn in Flash.
The unusual name of the comic comes from the fact that, when said aloud, it sounds like "Bigger than Jesus," a famous quote by John Lennon. According to Seah, he would have called it Bigger Than Jesus, but too many people would have protested and it would have been more trouble than it was worth.

[edit] Style
Bigger Than Cheeses' main attraction is its often nonsensical episodes, featuring strange and unrelated punchlines. He often creates comics out of frustration over events in his life, and will occasionally post a rant about a current real-life issue. The comic follows no greater storyline, but small ones will pop up from time to time.
Along with every webcomic, the author also publishes a short commentary, and throws in an IRC log that he always thinks is funny.
[edit] Characters
[edit] Thanatos
The primary character of the comic, Thanatos is energetic and eccentric. Originally, he was extremely violent, spending most of his time engaging in murder. This tendency disappeared as the comic progressed, though he is still occasionally violent. A common theme of the comic is for Thanatos to suffer extreme injury, either because of his own actions or those of Cleo or Sancho. In the latter case, he usually suffers a kick to the groin, to which he has built up a resistance. It has been suggested, but never confirmed, that he and Kat are dating. Thanatos is named after the Greek personification of Death.
[edit] Duke
Thanatos's best friend, Duke is the more rational of the two. His most notable feature is his lack of a mouth, which the cast page says he lost in a "tragic milkshake related accident". This does not seem to hinder his ability to speak or eat, though neither point has been touched upon by the author. Duke is also never seen without sunglasses; whenever his are taken off another pair is waiting behind them. Because of this, no one can remember the last time they saw his eyes. He is married to Natalie.
[edit] Natalie
Duke's wife, Nat is a strong-willed, buxom woman. Like Duke, Nat tends to provide a voice of reason to Thanatos's antics. Nat used to be an animal wrangler, and likes television shows with a strong female lead. She is also attracted to Woodrow, and not afraid to show it, even in front of Duke.
[edit] Kara
Kara is Natalie's twin sister, and by her definition, a "raging whore." She appears solely during episodes 578 and 579. It was revealed that she had been living with Duke for a year while his wife was overseas, and Kara had made no effort to distinguish herself from his wife.
[edit] Wang
Wang is a large, talking, alcoholic rock. He is almost always drunken and belligerent, and seems to have a particular dislike for Lei.
[edit] Sancho
Sancho is a robot that was built by Duke, and later rebuilt by Woodrow. He is perhaps best known for kicking Thanatos in the groin. At one point in the comic, he used parts of his body to create Cleo, to no apparent hindrance to himself. Sancho is married to both Cleo and Lei, but tends to pay Lei no attention.
[edit] Jesusman
The superhero identity of Jesus, Jesusman is extremely violent, though only to select people. He does not appear in the comic often, as he is apparently far too busy "kicking evil's ass".
[edit] Violent Bob
As his name suggests, Violent Bob is violent, even more so than Thanatos. He is also extremely competitive, sparring with Thanatos over various subjects. This usually results in their hospitalization. On several occasions he has demonstrated his homosexuality.
[edit] Woodrow
Thanatos's lawyer, Woodrow is extremely intelligent and physically attractive. Much to the male characters' chagrin (and Nat's pleasure), he wears only a thong and a bow-tie. He is very successful as a lawyer, and is apparently rich.
[edit] Katrina
Kat's legal name is Gregory Peck, but she pronounces it Katrina Mikalia. She appears to be attracted to Thanatos, and the two have even been seen engaging in sexual activity, but it has never been fully revealed if they are dating or not. For an unknown reason, Lei is trying to kill her.
[edit] Unit Lei
A parody of female anime characters (at least in appearance), Lei is a robot built in China. She is very childlike, and speaks in third person. She seems to be very fond of Wang, and strongly dislikes Kat, to the point of often trying to kill her. Lei is married to Sancho and is in love with him, but he never acknowledges her.
[edit] Cleo
Cleo is a robot that Sancho built from part of himself, for the purpose of becoming his wife. However, when Sancho activated Cleo's "love circuits" he was not within range, and Cleo imprinted to the nearest male, who turned out to be Thanatos. This seems to be unknown to Sancho. Cleo is constantly pursuing Thantos, though her sexual advances tend to hospitalize him, due to her extreme weight (1 ton).
