Bigby, Lincolnshire

Bigby is a village and civil parish in the West Lindsey district of Lincolnshire, England. It lies south of Barnetby le Wold and northwest of Caistor, at grid reference TA0614107119. According to the 2001 census it had a population of 234, though this has certainly increased because of the new Bigby Green housing development. The village is close to the administrative border with North Lincolnshire and is about four miles east of Brigg. Somerby hamlet is situated nearby.
The name Bigby comes from an Old Norse personal name Bekki + Old Norse býr, meaning "settlement" or "farmstead".[1] Bigby is recorded in the Domesday Book as Bechebi.
The local Anglican parish church is dedicated to All Saints. It has undergone restorations in 1780 and 1878.
Bigby is one of the Thankful Villages in Lincolnshire, because it lost no men in World War I. There is a war memorial in the parish curchyard, in remembrance of two local men who died during World War II.
