Bigature
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Bigature was Weta Workshop's nickname for the very large filming miniature models used in the Lord of the Rings film trilogy, including some of the film's central pieces, including the fortress of The Hornburg, the elven harbour of the Grey Havens, the city of Minas Tirith and the grim towers of Orthanc, Minas Morgul, and Sauron's stronghold of Barad-dûr. The largest of them measured some 6 metres high. This use of large miniatures was also utilized in Peter Jackson and Weta's next film, King Kong. Extensive computer graphics techniques and computer controlled cameras were used to seamlessly meld bigature photography with living actors.
