Big Mac (McDonald's character)

In addition to McDonald's signature sandwich, Big Mac was the name of a character in McDonaldland, the fictional world created as an advertising campaign for McDonald's. Big Mac was similar to Mayor McCheese, except he was the chief of police, wearing a constable uniform and sporting a large Big Mac for a head. He was the main source of law and order in McDonaldland, spending most of his time chasing the Hamburglar and Captain Crook. He was featured in several of the campaign's commercials throughout the late '70s and early '80s. The character was eventually dropped during the streamlining of the characters in the '80s.
The character was still visible to the public years after being dropped from the advertising campaigns, remaining incorporated among the core characters in the restaurant's "Playland" playgrounds, and in the McDonaldland-themed Happy Meal toys. [1] The same was true for Mayor McCheese, and although that character has become become somewhat of a pop-culture icon in recent years, Big Mac has fallen into relative obscurity.
More recently, the character was parodied on the short-lived Clerks: The Animated Series, in which the chief of police, who was apparently on his way to a costume party, shows up at a press conference dressed as the character. This follows a similar gag by the town mayor who had come dressed as Mayor McCheese.
