The name refers to Oasis guitarist and songwriter Noel Gallagher, the elder brother of singer Liam Gallagher. Each release's catalogue number is prefixed "RKID" (our kid), a reference to Liam.

The imprint was started after Alan McGee announced he was leaving Creation Records on November 25, 1999. The first release on Big Brother was the single "Go Let It Out" (with a catalogue number of 'RKID 001') on February 7, 2000, the lead single from the band's fourth studio album Standing on the Shoulder of Giants.

On August 14, 2000, all of Oasis singles from Definitely Maybe, (What's The Story) Morning Glory? and Be Here Now were re-issued on the Big Brother label and given new RKID catalogue numbers.

British band Happy Mondays released their first new material in over 13 years on the Big Brother label, the 2005 single Playground Superstar.

Big Brother are reported to be buying back the rights to Oasis' back catalogue from Sony BMG. [1]
