Big Brother Chad is the 4th episode of the ABC and Disney Television Show Recess.

[edit] Synopsis

After Vince rescues some younger children from a bully, the boy threatens to get revenge with the help of his older brother. This prompts the kids to recall that Vince, too, has an older brother, whom everyone remembers fondly as the coolest person they ever met. Vince is the only one who's seen Chad since first grade, and even he has become out of touch with his brother, but almost every child on the playground has vivid memories of him. The Ashley Girls even contemplate trying to get his autograph.

However, perceptions and fashions change. Nowadays, the kind of hobbies that Chad loves-- such as three-dimensional chess and keeping pet tortoises-- and his old-fashioned slang actually serve to make him a very uncool person among his peers, or as the other kids bluntly put it, a bit of a "geek". Vince is traumatised by the idea that the brother he's idolised for so long might not be so cool after all. Can he continue to look up to Chad without becoming unpopular and "geekish" himself?

Eventually, Vince confronts his brother directly. To his surprise, Chad is completely unconcerned about the label-- he's been aware for a long time that people call him a "geek", and feels it doesn't stop him from being cool in his own individual way. And when Chad protects Vince from the bullying siblings using not physical force, but his reputation for an amazing IQ, Vince accepts that possibly the "coolest" thing of all is simply to be yourself.
