Big Brain Academy (やわらかあたま塾 Yawaraka Atamajuku?) is a video game for Nintendo DS and the Wii, similar to Brain Age: Train Your Brain in Minutes a Day! in genre. It is part of Nintendo's Touch! Generations series. It was released in North America on June 5, 2006. A Wii reimagined version of this game has been recently announced and will be titled Wii Yawaraka Atama Jyuku.

[edit] Gameplay

In Big Brain Academy, tests are done in order to measure a brain's weight. The heavier the brain, the smarter the brain is. There are three modes ("classes") of gameplay. Test mode consists of a formal test, with one different test from each of five categories, in order to determine a brain weight. Practice mode allows the player to select which specific exercise he or she wants to do in order to train the brain. In Versus mode, two to eight players compete to determine who has the heaviest brain.

There are five different categories of tests with three activities within each category. The categories are (followed by their activities):

  • Think (Logic-themed questions) - 'Heavyweight', 'Pathfinder' and 'Boneyard'
  • Memorize (Memory-themed questions) - 'Sound Bites', 'Flash Memory' and 'Memo-random'
  • Analyze (Reason-based questions) - 'Missing Link', 'CubeGame' and 'Animal Lines'
  • Compute (Math-themed questions) - 'Coin-parison', 'Add Agency' and 'Written Math'
  • Identify (Visual-themed questions) - 'Shadow Shift', 'Get in Shape' and 'Matchmaker'

The activities are chosen randomly during tests. The player can choose the activity in practice mode.

After the test, the player is given a letter grade. Dr. Lobe also assess what areas the player needs to improve in and what ranking they would be; possible professions include museum curator, librarian, astronaut, investor, musician, fashion stylist, Shakespeare, programmer, caveman, Michelangelo, Pythagoras, and calculator.
