The Big Apple convention was started by Michael Carbonaro in 1996 in the basement of St. George's Church in Manhattan. It has grown into the longest-running comic book, sci-fi/fantasy/horror/pop culture convention in New York City. It currently holds several events a year at the Penn Plaza Pavilion in Manhattan.

The convention is known for its eclectic variety of guests, including many celbrities of comic books, classic TV, movies, animation, and pro wrestling, and pop culture.
