A Bichon-Shih Tzu is a canine cross between a Bichon and Shih Tzu. Because of the variation in the two breeds, many different color patterns and body types can result. "Zuchons," as Bichon-Shih Tzu mixes are often called, are recognized by the American Canine Hybrid Club.

[edit] Size

Adult zuchons typically range from eight to fifteen pounds although, as with any other dogs, there can be some larger dogs.

Depending on the mix in a single dog they can possess the temperament of the Shih tzu and the appearance of the Bichon, or the other way around. Typically if they possess the physical traits of a shih tzu, such as the smooth hair, they will be on the smaller size. If their physical traits are more bichon, with the curly hair, they will be on the larger size of the scale.

[edit] Temperament

Zuchons may possess none or some of the characteristics found in the Bichon and the Shih Tzu.

Generally, zuchons are sweet and fun-loving. They can be very loyal and affectionate and overall a great family pet.

[edit] Care

Zuchons are hypoallergenic dogs. They do require attentive grooming in order to prevent matting. They do not shed.[1]
