Bié (province)

Bié is a province of Angola. Its capital is Kuito and it has an area of 70,314 km² and a population of approximately 800,000. According to 1988 US government statistics, the provincial population numbered 1,044,000. It was estimated that 201,600 of the total population of the province lived in urban areas, with 843,400 people living in rural areas. Municipalities in the province include Andulo, Nharea, Cunhinga, Chinguar, Chitembo, Catabola, Camacupa and Cuemba. Current UNITA president Isaias Samakuva is from the town of Kunji.
