Bhimber

Bhimber is the chief town of Bhimber District, Azad Kashmir.

The town is situated on the border with Azad Kashmir and Pakistan at a distance of about 50 km from Mirpur, Azad Kashmir and about 166 km from Rawalpindi, Pakistan.

Until 1996 Bhimber was a sub-division of Mirpur District, in 1996 the Tehsil of Bhimber was removed from Mirpur and made into a separate district. Bhimber has been important strategically, it lies on the route that was followed by the Mughal Emperors for their frequent visits to the Kashmir Valley.
