Bhiku Mhatre

Bhiku Mhatre is a fictional character played by actor Manoj Bajpai in the Indian film Satya. The movie centers around the character of Satya. In the film, Satya is a nobody who rises to become the most important member of the Bhiku Mhatre gang.

[edit] Early Years

Little is known about Bhiku Mhatre prior to his joining the Bhau Thakur Jhawle gang. The gang initially consisted of Guru Narayan, Jagga, Vakil Mule, Kallu Mama and Bhiku. Although Bhiku and Guru Narayan where rivals for the number two slot in the Bhai Thakur gang they also had a close friendship and at one stage Bhiku had saved Guru Nayaran's life in Nasik in a shoot out with a rival gang. Bhiku still has the bullet wound in his back.

[edit] Bhau Thakurdas Jhawle Enters Political Arena

Bhau decides to enter politics. At this stage Guru Narayan leaves for Dubai to manage his faction of the gang from abroad, leaving Jagga in control of Mumbai operations. Bhiku re-forms the remnants of the old Bhau gang with Vakil Mule and Kallu Mama.

While in prison for organizing the murder of a prominent industrialist, Bhiku meets Satya a vagrant falsely imprisoned for pimping by corrupt police under the orders of Jagga. Bhiku finds a friend in Satya and welcomes him into the gang. After both are released from prison, Bhiku drives Satya to a bar, gives Satya a gun as a gift and informs him that Jagga is inside. Satya kills Jagga in the presence of many witnesses.

[edit] Guru Narayan vs Bhiku War

On a mission to extort money from a builder, the Bhiku gang is attacked by the Guru Narayan hit squad. After eliminating the squad, the former discover that Guru Narayan is behind the hit. Bhiku attempts to elimate Guru Narayan who is now back in Mumbai only to be asked by Bhau Thakur not to start a war that might ruin his political prospects.

Satya convinces Bhiku to disregard Bhau and kill Guru Narayan, which both Satya and Bhiku do at Jogeshwari train station.

Bhau Thakur apologizes for restraining the two, and admits that Bhiku and Satya did the right thing. He informs them that a new police chief Amod Shukla is now in control, and will crack down hard on crime and both will suffer if they don't come together. Amod Shukla eliminates many criminals including Bhiku's friend Chander who was also close to Satya. Satya then retaliates and organizes the assassination of the police chief.

During this time the elections results are announced and Bhau wins a surprise victory. Bhau invites Bhiku to attend a celebration party along with Vakil Mule and Kallu Mama. During the party Bhau kills Bhiku and says that he was waiting for the elections to complete before killing Bhiku for disobeying his order not kill Guru Narayan.

Satya takes revenge by killing Bhau at a Ganesh immersion before he is able to take his place in the new state government.
