Bibliography |
The Bhavishya Purana is an ancient Sanskrit text authored by Rishi Vyasa, the compiler of the Vedic texts. It is one of the 18 major Puranas and it contains the prophecies of important events of the world.
Its name comes from the words bhavishyat (meaning "future") and purana (meaning "history"). Thus "Bhavishya Purana" means "History of Future." Like other ancient Sanskrit works, past tense is used in the language of the book as Hindu philosophy maintains that the past will recur in the future and the future has happened. It is regarded as 'the Book of Prophecies'.
There is a controversy regarding some parts of this Purana and research has been done proving redaction (see reference).
