Bharuch (also known as Broach) is a district in south Gujarat state in India. Bharuch district contains the talukas of Ankleshwar, Hansot, Jambusar, Jhagadia, Panoli, VALIA and Vagra.

  • Area : 9,308
  • Population : 1,370,656

It also contains the city of Bharuch. The district was 25.72% urban as of 2001. [1]

Bharuch has a large muslim community that live mainly in the villages surrounding the main town. The villages and main town are not as heavily populated as they once were, many Bharuchi's have been seeking greener pastures then those in the villages surrounding Bharuch.

Bharuchi Muslims or Vohra Patels, as many of them like to be known can be found all over the world, from the Middle East to Europe and America.

The UK is home to the largest population of Bharuchi people outside of Bharuch, with Blackburn, Bolton, Dewsbury and parts of East London completely dominated by this community.

The staple diet of Bharuchi people is kitchree kuree and daar-gosht chawal, which is lentils, meat and boiled rice.

Over the years the community has been criticised, as they do intergrate with other Muslim groups, having their own cemeteries, community centres and masjids, exclusive to pure Baruchi's and not marrying anyone that has no village of origin.
