Bh (digraph)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

bh is a digraph found in some languages. In transcriptions of Indo-Aryan languages, it represents the aspirated voiced bilabial plosive (/bʰ/). In Irish orthography, it stands for the phonemes /w/ and /vʲ/, for example mo bhád /mə waːd̪ˠ/ "my boat", bheadh /vʲɛx/ "would be". In the orthography used in Guinea before 1985, /bh/ was used in Pular (a Fula language) to write the implosive b, /ɓ.
