[edit] Gameplay
Gameplay in Beyond the Beyond is typical RPG fare for the most part. The main twist in the turn-based battles is the inclusion of an active system for critical hits and defense. In order to utilize this system, the player must quickly tap the X button while a character or enemy is attacking, to strengthen or weaken the blow, respectively.
Beyond the Beyond is mostly linear gameplay, with very few side quests or secret characters. Altogether, one can expect about 30-40 hours of gameplay, due to long, maze-like dungeons, frequent random encounters, and difficult bosses.
