The Beverly Hills Film Festival is a film festival in the United States owned and operated by Nino Simon, who is an Assyrian originally from Iran. The festival debuted in 2002, but has remained relatively obscure and considered a minor festival with very little industry coverage. Held annually in Beverly Hills, the festival showcases new works from American and international independent filmmakers promoting non-studio films and screenplays to the entertainment industry. Designed to bring together the world of independent cinema with the renowned community of Beverly Hills, known for its links to the movie business, past and present, the festival is an entertainment event with daily screenings, nightly theme parties, seminars, concluding the festival with a black tie awards ceremony. The festival includes awards in the typical catagories of best film, actor, actress, director and screenplay . It concludes with the Golden Palm Award for best film and screenplay, borrowing from the Palme d'Or ("Golden Palm") which is the highest prize given to a film at the Cannes Film Festival introduced in 1955 by its organizing committee. However, the similarity between the two awards ends at the usage of the same name.
