[edit] Key Stage 3

The school encompasses 3 distinct stages.

One of these is Key Stage 3, which is taught in years 7, 8 and 9 involving pupils aged between 11 and 14. At the end of this 3-year period, the majority of pupils sit KS3 SATs. The school is known for ranking highly in these tests, and great importance is placed on them.

At the end of Key Stage 3 (also referred to as KS3) pupils choose options for the GCSE exams they wish to sit. Some subjects are obligatory; for example, pupils must study one technological subject. However, a degree of choice is introduced.

[edit] Key Stage 4

The second stage in the education provided by the school is given to pupils aged 14 - 16, in years 10 and 11, also known as Key Stage 4. During this time, priviledges enjoyed by the pupils are increased, with some pupils permitted to leave school during lunchtimes. At the end of this time, or possible during it, depending on which subjects were chosen to study by the pupil, pupils sit their GCSEs. Success in these exams can determine whether a pupil is permitted to continue in the school and join the 6th form or not.

[edit] 6th Form

This is the final stage in the pupil's education provided by Beverley High School, before they leave school and possibly go on to attend a university or college, whether local or not, or seek employment. The 6th form is mixed, and includes not only girls from the high school but also boys, from Beverley Grammar School and a mixture of genders from Longcroft. During this time, pupils are permitted to wear their own clothes in place of uniform.

During or after 6th form is completed, pupils may sit AS and A2 exams.
