[edit] In use
And, Category:Articles actively undergoing construction and Category:Articles actively undergoing a major edit are supposed to be temporary categories, but have grown very large. Perhaps a bot could depopulate them weekly? ( Radiant) 13:44, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
- Yes I can and Will have my bot empty the cat, Is there a day that you would suggest doing this? Betacommand ( talk • contribs • Bot) 14:44, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
- Not particularly. Note that these categories are generated by {{ inuse}} and {{ Underconstruction}}. Thanks! ( Radiant) 14:58, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

- Before I go and have my bot blocked for this, (as a malfunctioning bot) what should I use for the edit summary? Betacommand ( talk • contribs • Bot) 15:06, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
- How about "(bot) Remove inuse tag, no activity for three days"? Or maybe five days. Or I could think of some pun to go with that:) ( Radiant) 15:25, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

I try to go through this and weed out the forgotten ones. It is a bit frustrating because some people demand the right to leave up the tag for long periods of time, and aren't shy about complaining. Also it's transcluded on a bunch of instructional pages, like Wikipedia:Edit lock so some care needs to be taken not to mess up those pages. But if someone wants to run a bot and deal with the occasional upset article owner, I think that's great. -- W.marsh 18:22, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Adding template to the talkpage of a list of chemicals
I started adding/changing templates on the talkpages of a list of chemicals ( here), but a) found out that AWB cannot do it in one go (the prepend action is performed after the regex-actions), b) got tired of it, and c) it seems to be a typical bottask. I've done a fair bit of them, but could a bot please finish the remainder for me (some 1700–1800 pages, I guess)?
The tasks:
- From the list:
- Change an existing {{chemistry}} into a {{chemicals}}, taking the parameters 'class' and 'importance' from the {{ chemistry}}-template, where available, or adding them as empty parameters when not available, or
- Add {{chemicals | class= | importance=}} to the pages when there is no {{ chemistry}} on the page, except when the term '(data page)' is in the title of the page, in which case it should get {{chemicals | class=NA}}.
- When the template has an empty 'class' parameter at this point, steal that information from another template when that is available, importance should not be copied in this case,
- Warn me somewhere when there are different classes used in existing templates (log these pages to a page somewhere under my userspace)
The {{ chemicals}} can carry a third parameter 'core', but that one should be ignored, that one is for a specific subgroup, which will be handled by hand.
The list I have is almost perfect, contains a few errors, complaints can be redirected to my talkpage. Thanks already! -- Dirk Beetstra T C 18:44, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
- Ill add this to the list of task my bot has to do Betacommand ( talk • contribs • Bot) 17:27, 29 January 2007 (UTC)
- OK, cheers. I have done quite a number of the list, and people are adding this template also by hand. Before you start you could filter out the ones that have {{ chemicals}} already transcluded. Thanks again! -- Dirk Beetstra T C 17:32, 29 January 2007 (UTC)
- This kind of think is what my bot does best I have it down to a fine art since i have tagged 21500+ talk pages —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Betacommand ( talk • contribs) 18:07, 29 January 2007 (UTC).
[edit] Recategorise political parties to child categories
Can someone write a bot to assign many political parties to some narrower categories? We've been doing things manually up to now, but it's getting too much - there seems to be hundreds more to do, maybe over a thousand. Additionally, some categories need creating along the lines of Category:Political parties established in 1932.
Essentially, what's needed is to recategorise articles for political parties that currently have category "YYYY establishments" to category "Political parties established in YYYY". ("YYYY" here is a calendar year.)
For example, Liberal Party (Puerto Rico) is currently categorised as Category:1932 establishments, but it should be in subcategory Category:Political parties established in 1932.
Here's my "pseudocode" for one way it could be done:
FOR EACH article in a subcategory of "Political parties" IF article is in category "YYYY establishments" THEN IF category "Political parties established in YYYY" does not exist THEN create category "Political parties established in YYYY" END IF reassign article from category "YYYY establishments" to category "Political parties established in YYYY" END IF NEXT article

- I can get on that give me a about a week to work the kinks out of it and Ill start the changeover Betacommand ( talk • contribs • Bot) 21:53, 20 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] WikiProject MMO
I'm back! I'm afraid that I need some help from a bot for WikiProject MMO's banners again. We are starting up an assessment system and I thought a good way to start off would be to take ratings from WikiProject CVG's banners. Most all MMO articles have both {{ WP MMOG}} (WikiProject MMO's banner) and {{ Cvgproj}} (WikiProject CVG's banner) on their talk pages. I was hoping that a bot could take what WikiProject CVG assessed the article as and copy it (being {{WP MMOG | class=?}}). The articles that would be assessed are in Category:Massively multiplayer online games as well as it's sub-categories. I would prefer that you use this category over the project category as to hopefully get more articles with our banner on it. TIA! Greeves ( talk • contribs) 02:38, 23 January 2007 (UTC)
- Sure, that would not be a problem. Alphachimpbot is on it. alphachimp 05:17, 23 January 2007 (UTC)
