Bethune College

Bethune College is a women's college in India. It was founded as a school in 1849 by John Elliot Drinkwater Bethune and in 1871 developed as the first women's college in the country. It is located at 181, Bidhan Sarani, Kolkata -700006, just opposite the current campus of Scottish Church College, Calcutta. It is affiliated to the University of Calcutta.

- Kadambini Ganguly, among the first female graduates of India and the first female physician of South Asia to be trained in the European system of medicine
- Chandramukhi Basu, later principal of Bethune, thus the first female head of an undergraduate academic establishment in South Asia; graduated with Ganguly
- Kamini Roy, Bengali poet, social worker and feminist; the first woman honours graduate in India
- Pritilata Waddedar anti-British pro-India revolutionary
- Leela Roy, social worker, freedom fighter
