Betfair Bowl
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Betfair Bowl is a Grade 2 National Hunt chase in the United Kingdom for five-year-old and above horses run over a distance of 3 miles 1 furlong (5,029 metres) at Aintree Racecourse during the Grand National meeting in early April.
The distance and date of the race make it a suitable race for horses that have contested the Cheltenham Gold Cup at the Cheltenham Festival and it is often seen as a consolation prize for horses beaten in the Cheltenham Gold Cup. No horse has won both races in the same season.
It was first run in 1984. It was run under the title of the Martell Cup Chase between 1984 and 2002, the Martell Cognac Cup Chase in 2003 and 2004 and the Betfair Bowl since 2005.
