The Gravestone of Johan Peter Bernhardt (d. 1748), Stillwater Cemetery, Stillwater, New Jersey, who was one of the first settlers of Stillwater, arriving circa 1742.

Translation Original German: HIER RUHET der IOH. PET. BERNHARD GEBOH zu KERZenHEIM iN DER GRAFSCHAFT BOLANDEN IN EUROPA. ER IST MIT FRAU u KINDen IN AMERICA KOMEN ANO 1731. UND STARB DEN 28 AUG ANO 1748 Expanded German: Hier ruhet der Johan Peter Bernhard geboren zu Kerzenheim in der Grafschaft Bolanden in Europa. Er ist mit Frau und Kinden in America kommen anno 1731 und starb den 28 August 1748. English Translation: Here rests John Peter Bernhard born in Kerzenheim in the County Bolanden in Europe. He had with wife and children come to America in the year 1731 and died on the 28 of August 1748. NOTE: The inscription is incorrect, passenger lists show he came in 1741, not 1731.

This picture was taken by a personal acquaintance of mine and is used with his permission. He's honoured to have this photo being used mostly because it's his ancestor's headstone.
