The Berzdorfer See or "Lake Berzdorf" is situated near the southern border of the "Europastadt" (Town of Europe) Görlitz-Zgorzelec. The lake becomes created out of a former lignite minig area - the process of floding it has still started - it is expected to be finished in 2008. The planned surface of the lake is expected to be about 1.000 ha (about 10 square kilometer). It's name steams from a small village called "Schönau-Berzdorf auf dem Eigen" in the southwest of the lake. One day it's going to be one of the largest lakes in whole Saxony.
One day it will be a touristical sight with a harbour for some smaler boats, a beach for swimmers and some Restaurants. Other things planned are a Camping-place and Golfing-court. There also will be a touristical way around the lake with a length of about 18 kilometers.
