Beroe (mythology)

Beroe is the name of five characters in Greek mythology.

1. Beroe, one of the Nereids. [1]

2. Beroe, one of the Oceanids, she was in the train of Cyrene. [2]

3. Beroe, another one of the Oceanids, daughter of Oceanus and Tethys. She was the nymph of the city of Beruit in Phoinikia (modern Lebanon. In another version, she was the daughter of Aphrodite and Adonis. She had two rivals for her hand: the gods Dionysus and Poseidon, who fought for her hand. Zeus broke up the fight and awarded Beroe to Poseidon. [3][4][5]

4. Beroe, the nurse of Semele. Hera took the shape of Beroe and told Semele to ask Zeus to come to her as he comes to Hera. She did so and was smitten by a thunderbolt. [6]

5. Beroe, wife of Doryclus, an old woman. She was among the Trojan women who followed Aeneas into exile. Aeneas burnt the ships in Italy, having been persuaded to do so by Iris, who appeared in the shape of Beroe. [7]
